Sri Lanka will play in Asia Pacific Waterpolo C'ships by Leslie Fernando Sri Lanka will participate at the 7th Asia Pacific Waterpolo Championships hosted by Hong Kong Aquatic Sports Association with the blessings of the Asian Swimming Federation on August 13 and 14 at Kowloon Park Swimming Pool in Hong Kong. The Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union has accepted the invitation and decided to hold several trials to pick the team. The first trial will be on Sunday June 5 at the Police swimming pool at Narahenpita commencing from 9 a.m. The second trial on Physical Fitness will be at the Sports Complex at Reid Avenue and the third trial on waterpolo skills at the Police swimming pool on 10th and 11th June starting from 9 a.m. P. S. P. Dayananda, a former Ananda and national waterpolo player who is the SLASU Waterpolo Controller, will be in charge of the trials. He will be assisted by a panel appointed by SLASU. Clive Pearcy Waterpolo Twelve players will make the trip to Hong Kong and to start off 20 players will be picked after which intensive training will begin on completion of trials, said Dayananda. The annual Clive Pearcy League boys and girls Waterpolo tournament will begin today, June 5 at the Police swimming pool at Narahenpita. S. Thomas' College, the defending champions, Royal College the runners-up, Otter AC, Old Thomians' Swimming Club, Kinross SC, St. Joseph's College, Thurstan, Nalanda and Asian International School will battle it out in the boys section. Meanwhile, holders Ladies College, runner-up Visakha Vidyalaya, Bishop's College St. Bridget's Convent, Musaeus College and Asian International School will figure in the girls section. |
