Four shuttlers for Nepal Satellite by Lal Gunesekera Four shuttlers (two men and two women) have been selected to play at the Nepal Satellite in Kathmandu from June 7 to 11. The players will be accompanied by two officials. The two men's players are Duminda Jayakody and Thushara Edirisinghe, while the women's players are Thilini Jayasinghe (reigning national champion) and Chandrika de Silva (a former national champion). They will be accompanied by Palitha Hettiaratchi as manager and Kamal Gamlath as coach. Twelve shuttlers (six boys and six girls) are also to be picked by the selectors soon to play in the Asian Junior Championship to be staged in Jakarta, Indonesia from July 11 to 17. A spokesman for the Sri Lanka Badminton Association (SLBA), told the Sunday Observer that already eight boys and eight girls are in training at its headquarters with the final side to be picked very soon. They are to be accompanied by three officials. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's reigning national men's champion Niluka Karunaratne left for Australia last Thursday (June 2) to play in the Eureka International at Ballarat, Melbourne in Australia which is to conclude today (Sunday), and will also play in the Auckland International at North Harbour, New Zealand from June 9 to 12. Karunaratne was the 53rd player among the first 64 picked for the World Championships to be staged in Los Angeles, USA in mid-August, from where he will attend training camp at the German Training Centre upto 2008. He may also attend a training camp in either Malaysia or Germany too before the World Championship. |
