Ealaventhan speaking at this workshop said that President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga created all time history by signing the "Joint Mechanism" or Post of Tsunami Operational Management Structure and initiated the first step for peace, ethnic unity and thereby economic development in this disaster-ridden country. TNA Parliamentarian Ealaventhan said that late Premier S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike who was much convinced of the problems of the Tamil poeple was about to give the rights of the tamil speaking people through Bandaranaike-Chelvanayakam pact but this far seen pact w as made to declare 'null and roid' by a section of the Buddhist clergy and narrow minded chauvinists and entremists of all ranks led by certain politicians. If ever this BC pact was implemented at that time there would not have been this disastrous war that drag for over two decades of years at a cost of losing over forty thousand lives in both sides of the divides. The Parliamentarian (TNA) said that where the father (SWRD) failed, the daughter (CBK) has succeeded and that this was a great and a courageous and a bold act implemented by the President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga amidst numerous agitations against the implementation of the "Joint Mechanism". |
