Army women show superiority by Leslie Fernando Army women pugilists displayed superior skills to win three bouts and had three runners-up out of nine bouts at the Women's Novices Boxing Meet conducted by the Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka and held at the Police Field Force Boxing Hall at Bambalapitiya yesterday. Army won the Feather weight Class, Light Weight Class, Pin Weight Class categories and their boxers were placed runner-up in the Bantam Weight, Light Weight and Light Welter Weight. Unichela won the Bantam Weight Class, and Light Bantam Weight Class and received a walk over in the Middle Weight class. Police boxers had two wins in the Light Fly Weight and Fly Weight. The best bout of the was between M. S. C. de Silva of police and R. M. C. A. Rathnayake of Army. In the Light Fly Weight class M. S. C. de Silva turned the form book upside down by outpointing R. M. C. A. Rathnayake of Army. M. S. C. de Silva of Police was selected the best boxer while R. M. C. A. Rathnayake of Army was the best loser, for their fine display in the Light Fly Weight |
