Centre to train 60 youth on IT

With the government's positive measures to develop the job-oriented skills of the country's youth tapping worldwide employment opportunities the OST CADD Centre, Kollupitiya has teamd up with the Distance Education Modernisation Project (DEMP) to train 60 youth on IT.

According to CADD Centre Managing Director Ajith Ameresekera 60 youth who completed their GCE Advanced Level in remote areas will be trained on computer aided designing and drafting, project planning management and colour and graphics and multimedia at the CADD Centre for four months. Amarasekara told the Sunday Observer that their trainers were fully experinced and most of them had been trained at the CADD Centre in India.

The course was specially structured with additional modules to develop the participants' IT knowledge on appilcations, personality development techniques and business communication skills. The students who complete the course at the CADD Centre will be sent for another four months of training at reputed organisations.

Amarasekara said that the Centre which was set up as a joint venture with EWIS and CADD Centre, India provided training to professionals involved in designing, drafting and manufacturing disciplines. "We have identified the employement oriented opportunities in the IT sector and some of them could be performed in Sri Lanka at their own homes with the required software and an internet connection", the Managing Director said.

The centre will provide training opportunities on Civil, architectural and mechanical CADD, project planning and management, 3D modelling and Animation courses for foundation, diploma and professional level too. The Centre also conducts free seminars and workshops for government officials, trainers of technical colleges, and those from the construction and design industries, surveyors, drafting personnel, undergraduates and others from the industry.

"Many government agencies have taken the initiative to organise events with the OST CADD Centre to popularise the use of IT in the respective fields to gain higher productivity in their organisations", he said.
