MEP Leader Minister Dinesh Gunawardana:

It is with great regret and with a sense of personal loss that the MEP bemoan the brutal assassination of Foreign Minister Kadirgamar at the hands of assassins who had removed from our midst an exemplary personality who was not only our spokesman but also the visible embodiment of the hopes and aspirations of an undivided Sri Lanka with its territorial sovereignty integrity and dignity.

JVP statement :

A true son of Sri Lanka has fallen. The LTTE bullet aimed at the Minister was a bullet aimed at all those who reject racism and believe in democracy and human rights. It is a very temporary victory for a bloodthirsty racist fascist hiding in the Vanni who has modeled himself after Hitler.

The horrific crime instead of cowing us, strengthens the will of the people to resist dictatorship, and fight for true equality, multi- culturalism and multi- ethnicity. kadirgamar was a decent man without the guile, the double speak and the political treachery of the average main stream Sri Lanka politician.
