New range of Tata buses launched

Diesel and Motor Engineering (DIMO), the local distributor for Tata vehicles recently introduced the new range of Tata Cummins buses.

The new bus range is powered by the Tata Cummins engine which is reliable, has long life, is more fuel efficient, has almost nil oil consumption, uses less spares as there is less wear and tear, and is extremely environment friendly.

Cummins is the largest manufacturer of diesel engines in the world and has a joint venture with Tata for the manufacture of low-emission diesel engines for use in Tata Motors' new generation medium and heavy commercial vehicles that conform to Euro standards. Cummins engines have been in use on Tata vehicles since 1994 and have become a first choice of transporters since then.

Commenting on the new bus range, Director at DIMO Gahanath Pandithage, said "Cummins powered Tata vehicles have been operating in Sri Lanka since 1999 and close to 2000 such vehicles are already on the roads. The Cummins powered Tata vehicles are the undisputed market leaders in the truck segments.

The initial response with the first lot of the Tata Cummins buses has also been very good and I am sure that like the trucks, the Cummins buses will soon become the market leader".

One main reason for this upbeat mood at DIMO regarding the new range of buses is that apart from the superior technology and build, it saves a lot on fuel.

On monitoring, it was found that a bus running between Colombo and Katharagama saves around Rs. 800 on diesel per day. In these days of escalating fuel costs such a saving is not only a big relief for the customer but also significantly reduces the burden on the national oil bill.

The General Manager (Tata Commercial Vehicles) at DIMO Vijitha Bandara said "TATA Cummins buses come with the ever popular RUBY body with several seat configurations viz. 42, 52, 54, 57, 61 in standard, high back and luxury options.
