Water levels rise

Total reservoir storage crossed the 55 per cent mark last Friday largely owing to the rain experienced in the Central, Western, Sabaragamuwa and certain parts of the Southern province, Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said.

An official from the CEB said more rain is expected by the end of October and hopefully there would be no need to introduce power cuts, this year as an energy saving method.

Although the on and off showers with bright sun is the usual weather pattern during this time of the year, this year we got more rain than usual the official said.

"This was perhaps due to some depression in the atmosphere around Sri Lanka", he said. (RS)
