Techno 2005: Boost to engineering profession by M.P. Muttiah Techno 2005 Organising Committee Chairman Kosala Abeysiriwardane said that the premier engineering and technology exhibition in the country was very popular as a platform for industries and business community to present their engineering and technological solutions and innovations to the benefit of the people. Addressing a press conference held at the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) on Sept. 22, Abeysiriwardane said that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse would inaugurate the three-day exhibition on Oct. 21 at the BMICH. The IESL had already selected 10 finalists out of 68 young inventors and their inventions would be displayed at the Exhibition. The participants at these contests were schoolchildren over the age of 14 years from all parts of the country. IESL Past President B.R.O. Fernando said that one of the important aspects of Techno exhibition since the year 2000, was to encourage schoolchildren in engineering profession. Schools had been invited to enable schoolchildren to visit the exhibition. A separate area had been set aside at the BMICH for young inventors. He said, the 21st Techno Exhibition would be held next year for five days, to mark the centenary of the IESL. The centenary celebrations would begin on Jan 6, 2006. The awards ceremony of the Techno 2005 will be held on Oct. 28 at Hotel Taj Samudra. Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd. is one of the sponsors of the event. |
