New Deputy
Chief Sanganayake Thera of Colombo
Ven. Shastrapati Pandit Arama Dhammatillake Nayaka Thera, Viharadipati, Tissaramaya, Colombo 10 and Paramitha Sri Maha Bodimalu Viharaya, Gothatuwa and Alutgambedde Kande Viharaya has been appointed Deputy Chief Sanganayake Thera of Colombo region with the honorary title 'Keerthi Sri Vagishwara, Vinayacharya' by the Karaka Maha Sanga Sabha of the Malwatte Chapter. He will receive his Act of Appointment from the Ven. Tibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayaka Thera of the Malwatte Chapter at a ceremony at the Malwatte Viharaya Uposathagaraya, Kandy on October 11 at 3.00 p.m. Born in 1940, the erudite scholar monk entered the order as a samanera bhikkhu in 1952 at the Kande Viharaya, Alutgama and received higher ordination subsequently. He received his secondary education at Vidyalankara and Vidyodaya Pirivenas. He obtained the BA degree from the Vidyalankara University in 1967 and an Honours degree from the Sri Jayawardenepura University later. A well-known author and a prolific writer Ven. Dhammutilleke Nayaka Thera has written many books on the themes of Buddhist Philosophy and civilisation, social values and simple village life. He has also contributed the 'Sudam Sithangi' and 'Guruharukam' columns for the Dinamina, Lake House daily paper. A book containing his writings to the Dinamina columns will also be launched at the ceremony held at the Malwatte Viharaya Uposathagaraya on October 11 at 3.00 p.m. |
