President - Prime Minister in cordial talks

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga who returned to the island yesterday, after attending the 33rd Session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris immediately held talks with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse for over two hours.

Presidential Secretariat sources revealed that the discussions were extremely cordial and the two leaders discussed ways and means of ensuring the victory of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse at the forthcoming elections.

A highly placed official confirmed that most of the controversial issues that cropped up during the past few weeks had been amicably sorted out.

SLFP General Secretary, Minister Maithripala Sirisena was also associated in the discussions.
