Sri Lanka
Plays In South Asian Football Tournament
by Leslie Fernando Sri Lanka will play in the 4th annual South Asian Football Championships conducted by the South Asian Football Federation in association with the Asian Football Confederation. The tournament will be held from December 7 to 17 in Karachchi, Pakistan. The championships is sponsored by World Sports Group of Singapore and all Asian region teams: Afghanistan. Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka will play in the tournament which will be hosted by the Pakistan Football Federation. The groupings 'A' - Sri Lanka, Maldives, Pakistan, Afghanistan. 'B'- India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan. At this year's tournament matches to decide the third and fourth places will not be worked off. The champions will receive U.S dollars 50,000 the runners-up U.S. dollars 25,000 the losing semi-finalists U.S dollars 10,000 each. At the 3rd annual tournament Bangladesh emerged champions beating Maldives 2-1. The match schedule is as follows : Group 'A': December 7 - Maldives vs Afghanistan, Pakistan vs Sri Lanka December 9 - Maldives vs Sri Lanka, Pakistan vs Afghanistan December 11 - Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan, Maldives vs Pakistan Group 'B' December 8 - Bangladesh vs Bhutan, India vs Nepal December 10 - Bangladesh vs Nepal, India vs Bhutan December 12 - Bangladesh vs India, Nepal vs Bhutan December 14 - Semi-Finals December 17 - Final. |
