Three killed in Kashmir gunbattle SRINAGAR, India, Octo .08 - Indian soldiers torched a house to flush out two Muslim rebels who killed one paramilitary trooper and badly wounded another in a grenade attack in disputed Kashmir Friday, officials said. It was unclear if the militants were burnt or shot to death after they holed up in a private house during a battle in Sopore town, 50 kilometres (30 miles) northwest of the state summer capital Srinigar. Two girls were also wounded in the shootout which Border Security Force Deputy Inspector General K. Srinivasan blamed on the guerrillas. However Sopore residents said the schoolgirls were hit when Indian forces shot back after a grenade was lobbed at them. Hundreds of angry Sopore residents took to the streets to protest, shouting anti-Indian slogans, witnesses said. Shopkeepers closed down and the streets were deserted atter the blase. |
