Secretary General of the Asgiriya Maha Vihara Chapter of the Siyam Maha Nikaya Ven. Professor Warakawe Dhammaloka Nayake Thera said that the election of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse as the Fifth Executive President of Sri Lanka was a victory for the people of Sri Lanka.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse's victory has disproved various false predictions and allegations made by private electronic and print media and by some politicians who supported the UNP candidate.

The victory of the Prime Minister was the fulfilment of the expectations of the people of the country.

"I bless him that he would be able to fulfil his duties successfully with the blessings of the Triple Gem, and I also congratulate him", the Nayake Thera added.

President Mahinda Rajapakse had to face a number of challenges, which he will be able to surmount. While finding solutions to the economic problems he has to take steps to give priority to finding a workable and effective solution to the North-East problem and achieve sustainable peace, he said.

In Mahinda Rajapakse's efforts to solve those problems all those who are concerned and the general public should extend their support "Let us hope for a better and new era", he added.
