Confederation of Public Service Independent Trade Unions in a press release says: "We join hands with thousands of others to extend warmest congratulations on your assumption to the office of Executive President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

Our membership was tremendously pleased and relieved when your manifesto incorporated our proposal that a cost of living allowance need be paid to the Public Servants commensurate with the living index which subsequently became a budget proposal. Our members made a joint effort district-wise to propose to the National Administrative Council of this necessity.

The country is crying for peace and stability.

We shall strengthen your sinewy arms to achieve the objective.
