Senior Journalist, Therese Douglas who is presently working in the Daily News has been diagnosed with chronic renal failure and is being treated by Dr. R. Lanerolle, MD, Consultant Nephrologist.

He has recommended regular haemodialysis on a long term basis, because she is unfit for kidney Transplant.

The treatment costs around Rs. 10,000 per week. She has no means of continuing this treatment because of the cost involved.

Chathuri needs your help

K. K. Chathuri Amali, aged 10, student of the Special Education Unit, Sri Sumangala Vidyalaya, Weligama is congenitally deaf and dumb. Dr. Devanand Jha the M.S (AIIMS) DNB, consultant ENT Surgeon, Apollo Hospital, Colombo has recommended that Cochlear lmplant surgery be performed as soon as possible to help the patient recover early. The cost of the surgery is estimated to around Rs. 2.3 million.

Financial assistance needed

Upali Kulathunga of no. 1082, Dalupitiya Road, Hunupitiya, Wattala, is suffering from acute renal failure. Dr. A. L. M. Nazar, Consultant Nephologist National Hospital Colombo has recommended an immediate kidney transplant. Kulatunga's wife Kamani Sirisena had consented to donate a kidney.

The applicant, a former teacher is now unemployed and is unable to find the necessary finances, Rs. 150,000 to meet the surgical expenses.

At the moment, he is undergoing dialysis treatment at the National Hospital twice a week. He appeals for financial contribution. The Lions Club of Enderamulla has opened a bank account No. 1008 5305 0503 at Sampath Bank, Wattala.

Heart Patient appeals for help

K. Jasintha Annete Peiris of 490/A, Gane Road, Ragama, a mother of two children is suffering from a severe heart ailment. She needs Rs. 250,000 for heart surgery to be carried out at the Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital.

She seeks financial assistance.
