fascinating line up of events at the show there will be two segments presented by her.

One of the highlights of the evening will be the presentations of models, Chandi Perera from Sydney, Madusha Chandratilleke from Perth as well as another Sri Lankan model from Malaysia.

Chula says half of the proceedings from this event, held in memory of her dance Guru, Mrs. Sujatha Jayawardena, from whom she had learnt oriental dancing will be donated to the Old Girl's Association of Visakha Vidyalaya, her alma mater. Hair is by Ramzi Rahman, while jewellery is from Mallika Hemachandra.

Speaking with the Sunday Observer, yet another of the semi-finalists vying for the Fashion Designer of the Year title, Madri Jayasekera, who has experience as a Product Developer and a designer plus a diploma from Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology(LIFT) and who was crowned as the Designer of the year on her graduation day says "I love to do my own sewing. It's one of my hobbies and all my collections are inspired by either natural or fictional elements".

"Come early" says Chula. "Because we will also be selecting the best dressed lady, the best dressed teenager and the smartest guy from the audience".

Who knows you might bag the price.

Fashion Designer of the Year 2005, will be held on December 19 at the main auditorium of the BMICH, sponsored by Singer (Sri Lanka) and covered by Sirasa TV. Star performances

A star attraction during the festive season will be the renowned Sri Lankan born soprano singer Gayathrie Patrick who has just returned from Australia after participating in a number of fund raising concerts for the tsunami appeal. She will perform at the Galadari Hotel each evening from December 18 to 23 and a special performance on Christmas Day.

Gayathrie who started her vocal training with Mary Ann David, studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she graduated with a Royal Academy Bachelor of Music. Her operatic training was furthered at the Mayer Lismann Opera Centre, London, and continues her studies with recognised tutors Jeanette Massochchi, Paul Hamburger and Anitha Whitehouse.

During the early years of her career, Gayathrie won many awards for her singing including the prestigious "International Young Singer of the Year" at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, the first prize at the Robert Sutcliffe Inter-Conservatoire special competition for singers.

She also carried away the first prize at the 'Cardigan Opera Challenge' competition at the Cardigan Musical Eisteddfod and in October 2001 the 'Open Vocal Challenge' prize at the Miner's Eisteddfod of South Wales. She has had the distinction of winning the first prize for Opera, Recital and Lieder in thirty two competitions affiliated to the British Federation of Music.

Her many operatic roles include Orfeo - Orfeo ed Euridice, Suzuki in Madam Butterfly, Rosina in Il Barbier di Siviglia and Dorabella in Cosi Fan Tulte. In recent engagements she played Angel in Dream of Gerontius with the Redbridge Concert Orchestra, Dido in Dido and Aeneas with the Newport Pagnell Operatic Society and the title role Carmen with the Belcanto Festival Opera at the Hawth Theatre Crawley.

She has given concerts and recitals throughout the UK, Europe and Australia, and is a member of the Opera troupe at the BOC Covent Garden Festival and also a member of the renowned organisation - the Councils for Music in Hospitals.

On the popular side of music, her wide repetoire has seen her perform the lead roles in Annie, Oklahoma, 'Hello Dally', West Side Story, South 'Pacific', Sound of Music and My Fair Lady. Six years ago she made her debut as soloist in the Variety show 'Sunday Night at the Palladium'. Her performances during the festive season will surely be a joy to her many fans in Sri Lanka. Aradhana - a new CD release

Sri Lankan born Thilaka Rupasinghe, of Melbourne, Australia released her CD album titled Aradana recently. The album comprises seventeen Sinhala classical songs.

The music for the seventeen songs were composed by Sarath Dasanayake,Victor Ratnayake and Mahinda Bandara.

"My songs are mainly on nature,love and expressions of sorrow.

The motive in recording my CD album is to popularise the Sinhala classical songs in Australia and in other countries where tremendous enthusiasm prevails among our people in listening to the classics in Sinhala," expresses Thilaka.

The lyrics for her songs have been written by Saman Chandranath Weerasinghe, Chandrasena, Range, Kesawa Edirisinghe and D. K. Darmawardene.

An old girl of Anula Vidyalaya and St. Paul's Millagiriya, Thilaka Rupasinghe developed her interest in Sastriya Sangeetha from her very early days at school.

Quoting Nanda Malini, Neela Wickremesinghe and late Malini Bulathsinhala as her idols, Thilaka had even performed over some of the radios in Australia.

"It was after the last year's tsunami in Sri Lanka that a big musical show was organised in Melbourne to raise funds for the victims. A large number of Sri Lankans irrespective of their race, language and status gathered at the show and expressed their integrity as Sri Lankans."

It was a wonderful experience for me to take part in that event and to sing for my country", Thilaka exclaimed.

Vote for Nadeeka

For the first time television viewers in Sri Lanka will have the opportunity to vote for the country's representative to the Miss World 2005 contest through the S M S voting system, on Channel One MTV's 'Vote for Me' show. On November 30 viewers in the Asia Pacific region would surely have voted for Nadeeka Perera to the finals at the Miss World 2005 to be held at Sanya a beautiful island in South China.

Just in case you were laid back in your intention, then according to Channel One MTV you have another opportunity to register your vote when a re-telecast of this 'Vote For Me' show will be on Thursday, December 8 at 9.30 p.m.

The path that will receive your vote is MTV (space) MW 116 and SMS it to 7788. Remember voting can continue till twelve hours before the finals which takes place on Saturday, December 10 and will according to channel one MTV, be telecast live at 9.30 p.m. Sri Lanka time.

The Miss World Organization has introduced something new to the contest this year to ensure equal representation from all parts of the world.

The six 'Vote For Me' shows belong to six different regions - Northern Europe, Southern Europe, Africa and Middle East, Asia Pacific, the Americas and the Caribbean.

The regional competitions will pick the respective representative to the final round on December 10. Each country can SMS for any contestant and the contestant with the highest ranking will receive a certain number of points. The second placed participant will recieve a lesser allocation of points.

The more top rankings a contestant receives in her region, the better her chance of making it through to the finals. Even Sri Lankan expatriates can SMS their vote from whichever country they are now domiciled in.

So there you are, you have a chance on Thursday December 8 to go all out and vote for Sri Lanka's contestant Nadeeka Perera into the finals and to the coveted crown of Miss World 2005.
