Govt to commence talks with political parties

Government is likely to commence talks with all national parties this week "to arrive at a common consensus" with regard to finding a solution to the ethnic crisis, according to Constitutional Affairs Minister DEW Gunasekara.

Speaking at a news conference held last week the Minister said that the President would hold either bilateral or multi party discussions.Minister Gunasekara also noted that speculations expressed in both international and local media that resumption of war would be imminent once Mahinda Rajapakse was elected President had now been proved incorrect.

Meanwhile the main opposition United National Party too was reported to have said that it would support the peace process.
