Dejan - champion sculler for 2005 by Leslie Fernando Dejan de Zoysa, former Thomian rowing captain and national oarsman and the champion racing driver is the winner of the title for the sculler of the year 2005 This is according to the ratings by the Colombo Rowing Club and the Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka. De Zoysa has performed exceptionally well in the this year and he has participated and held the top spot and without a doubt is the best sculler in rowing. He is followed by five other national oarsmen and in second position is Chrishan Silva, Udesh Hettiarachchi placed third, Mewan Goonawardena is in fourth spot, Gayajith Dassanayake fifth place and Isuru Perera sixth. All six oarsmen are in the Colombo Rowing Club training squad in preparation for the Amateur Rowing Association East Regatta to be held in Chennai, India on December 17. According to a senior official of Colombo Rowing Club, the participation of CRC rowers at the Amateur Rowing Association East (ARAE) have been confirmed. This event is hosted and conducted by the Madras Boat Club and leading clubs from India, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Singapore and Thailand are expected to row at the ARAE Regatta. The CRC oarsmen and oarswomen are training under Chanaka Wickremasooriya, the Captain of Boats and coach of CRC. |
