Milo Sri Lanka Junior : Focus on three teenagers

The Milo Sri Lanka Junior Championships is scheduled to be staged at the Ridgeways of the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) from December 12 to 14.

The focus will be on three of our promising juniors - Binupa Wijesinghe (RCGC) and Victoria Golf Club's Chamil Wickremasinghe and Vijitha Bandara who will be competing in the All-India Junior Amateur Championships in Pune from December 20 to 23.

Their participation at the Milo Sri Lanka Junior Championship will provide greater competition and interesting golf is on the card.

The Milo Challenge Trophy will be awarded to the player (irrespective of age) returning the best aggregate gross score over 54 Holes, while prizes are on offer for the first and second runners-up too.

The Bronze Cup will be awarded for the best aggregate gross over 54 Holes for players in the Under-15 category, while the first and second runners-up too will be rewarded. There will also be prizes for the Nett scores (age group 15 to 17 in the Championship category) and Bronze Division (Under 14 years with a handicap of 28 and below).

Milo is continuing their support for junior golf for the fourth consecutive year with support from the Sri Lanka Golf Union (SLGU) and clubs. Sri Lanka's juniors compete regularly in the Junior Championships in India, Singapore and Pakistan, and this year (2005) they also competed at the SAT Junior Golfers Championships in Thailand, while the SLGU sends two every second year for the World Junior Championships in Scotland.

The SLGU looks forward to Milo's continued support in the future too, and two of Sri Lanka's promising players, Anura Rohana and Lalith Kumara are now professional players, while Tissa Chandradasa, a top amateur, all won the Sri Lanka Junior titles.
