Undergrads halt activities

Following a lengthy discussion between Sri Lanka Arm forces in Trincomalee and the District's Tamil People Forum, the armed forces have agreed to withdraw from areas surrounding schools, temples, technical colleges and Periyakadai seashore. Hartal has been temporarily called off. The dialogue took place at the office of the deputy inspector of police. (Virakesari (VK) - 16/01)

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Jaffna district parliamentarian Selliah Gajenthiran has called on the public to inform him or any other Jaffna district TNA parliamentarian of any atrocity by the military forces. (VK - 16/01)

Number of refugees arriving in Tamil Nadu from Sri Lanka due to fear of war has escalated over the last few days. 15 persons of 4 families from Mannar reached Thanushkodi by a ferry yesterday. (SOI - 19/01)

Refugees who came to Thanushkodi yesterday said there were thousands of people waiting to come to Tamil Nadu as refugees, but they were helpless since they didn't have the sufficient number of boats to travel. Few women stated they vacated fearing war and sexual harassment by the Army. (TK - 20/01)

'Sinhala political leadership is not concerned about your welfare.

Neither are they concerned about your families.

They are exploiting you and making you sacrifice your lives for their luxury', says a leaflet issued in the Sinhala language for the military forces in the North-East urging them to return home. (TK - 20/01)
