Intercepts indicate explosions in Adampan

Two top LTTE leaders together with ten other accomplices were killed in a claymore bomb at the Adampan junction on the Uyilankulam Pallamadu road a few miles East of Mannar yesterday, according to LTTE communications intercepted by security forces.

LTTE communications confirmed there was heavy shooting following the explosion but it is not clear whether the firing was by the LTTE or by any other group.

Meanwhile, civilian sources said that a team of top LTTE leaders was scheduled to participate in a LTTE passing out ceremony in Adampan and later to proceed to attend a top level meeting in Mannar.

Security forces learned that the vehicles of the LTTE Political Leader S. P. Thamilselvam was also in the escort but no report was available whether Thamilselvam was at the scene when the bomb was blasted. However, sources said that after the incident, roads entering Adampan were closed to the public.
