Saman and Navin - top and bottom seeds for Squash Nationals The two top seeds - defending champion Saman Tillekeratne who is the top seed, and bottom seeded Navin Samarasinghe, are presently in training in France and Australia respectively in preparation for the 25th National Squash Championships to be staged at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium courts from January 24 to 28. This is being sponsored for the fourth time by Finlays Rentokil Ceylon Limited. Among the other top players in the men's category are Kavinda Cooray, Harin Perera, Yasir Issadeen, Eranga Alwis and Kavin Jayawardene - all members of the pool for the South Asian Games to be worked off in August in Sri Lanka. In the women's category, Nirasha Guruge will have to battle-it-out with her cousin Tehani guruge for the top spot. The former became the youngest national champion when she won the title two years back at the age of 14. The others who are likely to give stiff competition are: Vidushi Gurunadha, Randima Ranaweera and Kushani Daluwatte. This year, six events will be worked off (Men's Open, Women's Open, Men's Novices, Women's Novices, Men's Over-35 and Men's Over-45). The Men's Open winner is entitled to a prize of Rs. 40,000, while the women's Open winner will receive Rs. 30,000. Prize money will be offered upto the quarter-finalists in the Men's Open and to the semi-finalists in the Women's Open in addition to various other gifts and vouchers.
