AAC-Dialog age group swimming Feb 17 to 19 by Leslie Fernando A record number of over 1,500 swimmers from schools and clubs are expected to participate at the Dialog GSM Age Group Swimming Championships to be conducted by Ananda Aquatic Club (AAC) supported by Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union from February 17 to 19 at the Ananda College swimming pool. Dr. H. S. Perera, the President of Ananda Aquatic Club, at a press briefing held on Friday night at the SSC said that AAC is operational for last 11 years and has made tremendous effort in developing swimming as a sport activity within Ananda College as well as within the country. Dr. Perera added that the meet is registered with SLASU and the meet will be officiated by officials of SLASU. This swimming championship was planned with a view of improving competition and building enthusiasm in swimming. The meet is open for men women, boys and girls competitors in age groups such as under-8, under-10, under-12, under-14, under-16, under-19 and over 19. Normal events will be worked off on all three days. AAC hopes to conduct this meet with great success as AAC had the distinction of organising a massive swimming relay carnival recently for swimmers in the schools and clubs and it was a tremendous success. Dr. Perera further said that AAC has decided to select top ten swimmers of each group both men and women and award certificates and prizes. The overall champions in both men and women will be presented DIALOG GSM Challenge Trophies. He also highly commended the DIALOG GSM for coming forward to sponsor this event. Telecom giant Dialog Telekom is always extending a helping hand to develop various sports activities within the country and it is a healthy sign. Entries will close on February 3 with Manager, Ananda College Swimming Pool, Ananda College, Colombo 10. |
