Foshal hits St. Sylvesters into final by S. M. Jiffrey Abdeen - Kandy Sports Corr. IT was pinch hitting at its best as 16 year-old Mohammed Foshal clobbered 44 not out with 6 sky-scraper sixes and a four off 35 deliveries for St. Sylvestors College to storm into the final of the 20-20 overs cricket tournament organised by the Kandy District Cricket Association when they routed Dharmaraja College by ten wickets without raising a sweat at Police grounds, Kandy. It was poor batting by the Rajans which let them down as their top order batsmen failed and the tail also failed to wag and they folded up for 69 runs in 16.4 overs. IT is surprising that the Rajans could not bat their full quota of 20 overs. The Sylvestariens made mince meet out of the Rajans attack to score the required runs for victory in less than ten overs and the entire match lasted only 26 overs. Dharmaraja College: 69 all out in 16.4 overs (Chandimal Ratnayake 22, Rukshan Sooriyarachchi 12, Shenans Najurdeen 3 for 5, Maithri Wijesekera 3 for 19). St. Sylvesters College: 71 for no loss in 9.2 overs (Mohammed Foshal 44 not out, Rajitha Wickramarachchi 26 not out) The second semi-final of this tournament will be played between Vidyartha College and Trinity College at the Asgiriya Stadium this Sunday - January 22 commening at 9.30 a.m. The final too will be played at the same venue on the same date at 1.00 p.m. with the winners of Vidyartha / Trinity match meeting St. Sylvesters College. |
