Virtusa holds free and open source software week

Since its inception Virtusa has always been at the forefront of cutting edge information technology adoption and emerging business trends. Virtusa's early recognition of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) as a fundamentally different way of building software has thrust the company to the forefront in the international FOSS community, a media release from the company said.

Enhancing its commitment to FOSS and building awareness and enthusiasm for related technologies among Virtusans, the company recently held a Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) week. The Virtusa FOSS week was inspired by Sri Lanka's National FOSS week held in September 2005, of which Virtusa was a gold sponsor and a key organiser.

The FOSS week took place at Virtusa's Trans Asia office in Colombo. Prof. V. K. Samaranayake, Chairman, Board of Directors, Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) commended Virtusans for their passion for FOSS and the company's support for various national initiatives.

The week commenced with an 'Install Fest', a popular event where enthusiasts assemble to conduct mass installations, most often of Linux operating systems and other Open Source software. A special FOSS quiz was also held on the first day along with a screening of the documentary film 'Code LINUX', officially kicking off FOSS week.
