Happenings / People Valentine vibes with Annesley by Mahes Perera
Nothing could be finer, to pinch a phrase off a song, than to be at the Blue Leopard Night Club of the GOH on Valentine's Day, and enjoy the romantic vibes of Annesley and Super Chimes. It's going to be a Valentine's Day with a difference. The music will be mainly Sri Lankan, with English and Hindi songs for added attraction. Experience it! Annesley and Super Chimes are a regular feature at the Harbour Room on Saturdays, keeping the audiences happy with the hit songs of the Moonstones and the Super Golden Chimes, as well as the Western hit songs of the 60s and 70s. The band is in great demand playing for stage shows, dances, weddings and corporate functions. A six piece outfit, the band besides Annesley, comprises Amal Silva, who plays electric bass and handles the English vocals, keyboardist Mahesh Silva needs no introduction, he's well-known in the music scene, Jagath Kulasinghe is the drummer who sings the Sinhala classics in addition to the much loved Hindi songs. The lead guitarist is Channa Athalage while Dimantha Seneviratne is the lead keyboardist. All in all an entertaining outfit, so catch them on Valentine's Day at the Blue Leopard. Blues & Cues and Aquarius too
Blues & Cues, the night club at the Ramada Continental Hotel, Dubai swings again for a second year with the vibes of the Sri Lankan band Aquarius. Led by the power packed bassist Benjy Ranabahu, the boys have ensured that the night club is crowded every time they perform. Benjy who was in Sri Lanka to perform for the Amazing Grace Concert commented that he was happy about the extension."I must thank the band for managing while I was away, and also the management of the Hotel for releasing me to perform at the Grace concert. For the first time I have introduced a saxophone to the group, and Gavin Senn's blowing gives a newer sound to the music. Our repertoire takes in hip-hop and r & b for the energetic and young music lovers, but of course there's the 60s to 80s hits for those who enjoy and cannot forget the music of these eras. Hopefully the whole band will be back home for the Ramazan Season".And Aquarius fans in Sri Lanka no doubt will look forward to their return. (MP) Golden Memories from Clifford
