Andy Solomons - captained teams from U-13 onwards

Andy Solomons of St. Thomas College, Kotte who was also in the under-19 World Cup squad was picked as the Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer 2005 Out station. He captained the Ist XI team last season and performed well, scoring over 800 runs.

He toured India recently with the Sri Lanka under-19 led by Angelo Mathew who is presently leading the under-19 World Cup side. He was also unfortunate to be left out of the final 14.

His best individual performance in 2005 was against Lalith Athulathmudali Vidyalaya, Mount Lavinia when he hit a sparking double century (263) which included 21 sixes and 24 fours. He is a stylish right-hand bat and also scored three half centuries against Ananda Sastralaya, Kotte, Dudley Senanayke MV, Colombo and Piliyandala MV.

Andy, a medium pace opening bowler, captured 46 wickets with best figures being 6 for 50 against Ananda Sastralaya. He had a match bag of 9 for 80 against Holy Cross College, Kalutara.

The 18 year-old Andy an 'A' Level student, has played cricket for college since 12 years and had the fine record of captaining the college under-13, under-15, under-16 and under-19. He has played for Ist XI for four successive years, including this season. Andy did not play on most of the games due to the fact that he was in the under-19 World Cup squad training. But will be seen in action early.

Andy was a member of the NCC and played in the division three tournament last year. He said that he has an idea of joining the CCC this year. He is elated about his feat as the captain of the college cricket team. "We, maintained an unbeaten record last season due to fine team spirit and superior performances", he said.

Andy thanked the Principal and the staff of the college, and his coaches for all the advice which enabled him to reach a good standard in cricket.
