Dialog GSM Age Group Swimming Championships conducted by the Ananda Aquatic Club has attracted over 2500 swimmers from schools and clubs. The three-day meet will be held from Friday to Sunday, February 17 to 19 at the Ananda College swimming pool.

Incidentally this is going to be the best-patronised swimming championships in the island with a record 2,500 swimmers competing, said Bandula Dissanayake, Secretary, Ananda Aquatic Club (ACC). The event is sponsored by Dialog GSM for the first time, there will be two sets of time keepers officiating from Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (Interim Committee) to enable the meet to run efficiently.

Altogether 108 events for both boys and girls will be worked off in seven age categories under-8, under-10, under-12, under-14, under-16, under-19 and over 19. The winners in all events will decide from time trial basis.

The first ten in all events will be presented certificates while the first three will be awarded medals. The overall champions both boys and girls will receive Dialog GSM Challenge Trophies.

Dissanayake added that Dialog GSM has agreed to sponsor this meet in the future too. So, the Dialog GSM Age Group Swimming Championships will be an annual event. Ananda Aquatic Club is operational for the last II years and has made immense efforts in developing swimming as a sport activity within Ananda College as well as within the country said Dissanayake.

Furthermore, Ananda College swimming pool is the only school pool which measures to international standard and is equipped with a competition pool of 50 metres in length with 8 lanes and a 25 metre training pool.

There are well trained life guards and well qualified swimming coaches. Additional facilities such as well equipped gymnasium and a restaurant are also available within the pool complex.
