SLRFU inquiry postponed again by Lal Gunesekera Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU)'s Disciplinary Committee seems to be 'dragging their feet' into the inquiry into various incidents that occurred at the final of the Singer Professional 7s between Kandy Sports Club and CH & FC at Longden Place on January 29. The first sitting of the Disciplinary Committee was held on February 3, but was put off for last Thursday (February 9) as certain persons who were to give evidence were not available. Now, the inquiry has been postponed again for February 18. The reason for the latest postponement I understand is that CH & FC official, Shane Dullewa (himself a former Secretary of the SLRFU), had not been present at even last Thursday's inquiry. He failed to make himself available even at the inquiry on February 3. A spokesman for the SLRFU told the Sunday Observer that if Dullewa fails to attend February 18 meeting too, the inquiry will proceed without him. For Thursday's inquiry, Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee, Neil Wijeratne, too was not available as he had been away in India, but the other two members (Metha Abeygunawardene and Saliya Udugama) had been present. They had recorded the statements of the referee Dilroy Fernando, two Touch Judges (Kevin Luppen and Preethi Fernando) and 3rd Touch Judge (Kelum Sujith). The statements of the three players (Nalaka Weerakoddy and Sanjeeva Jayasinghe from Kandy and CH's Milinda Jayasinghe) were recorded on February 3. Meanwhile, SLRFU's Council met with club representatives yesterday (Saturday) to discuss the important issue of player transfers etc. |
