Awards for winners of Formula Plus motor insurance

by Seneviratne Kahatapitiya

The winners of the Sri Lanka Insurance (SLI) Formula Plus motor insurance competition held from September 1 to December 31, 2005 received their awards at a ceremony at the Taj Samudra Hotel recently.

Thirty-seven field sales personnel received their awards which included an air-ticket each and a further fifty-eight received merit certificates highlighting their remarkable performances in sales.

The awards ceremony began with the 'Achievement Awards', which recognised sales personnel who had obtained a predetermined premium income of Rs. 250,000 over and above their sales performance for the corresponding period in 2004.

The winner of the competition K. L. Nandasena, who won the 'Platinum Award', had obtained a premium income of over Rs. 5 million of motor insurance premium, compared to the corresponding period last year. Nandasena also received five-day tour for two to Singapore and Hong Kong with US $ 200 spending money.

E. S. Fernando of the Gampaha branch, who obtained a premium income of over Rs. 2 million received a 'Gold Award' for his achievement and won himself a five-day trip to Hong Kong and Singapore.

The 'Silver Award' was presented for sales personnel who obtained over Rs. 1 million of motor insurance premium compared to the corresponding period last year, and was won by seven field sales personnel who received a trip to Singapore as their award.

A unique feature here was that the sales personnel responsible were able to obtain this premium income within four months of the competition date. Ten field sales staff who contributed over Rs. 750,000 in premium income for SLI, won the 'Bronze Award' and a three-day trip to Singapore.

Eighteen field sales personnel who contributed more than Rs. 500,000 in premium income compared to the corresponding period last year, received 'Plate' award. Fifty-eight field sales staff who had achieved a premium income level of Rs. 250,000 received certificates.

The ticket-draw section based on a series of 'Blue' and 'Red' tickets printed specially for the competition and high performing field sales personnel were drawn into these two separate sections based on predetermined competition criteria.

Thirty prizes were awarded in this section. Hence, a field sales person who had obtained a high level of sales was eligible to receive more tickets in a particular colour and hence, had a greater possibility of receiving a prize at the prize draw.

The first, second and third placed winners received Rs. 500,000 (the 'Super Prize'), Rs. 250,000 and Rs. 100,000. The fourth to sixth place winners each received Rs. 50,000 while seven to ten prize winners received an air ticket each to Singapore.

The balance twenty prize winners won a two-day holiday in a star class hotel in Sri Lanka. Of the three-hundred-and-forty-five field sales personnel J. C. Gunawardene and S. C. Rupasinghe won Rs.5 lakhs in the grand draw.
