Original and creative

by Shamindri Jayasuriya

Take a minute to be introduced to Romesh and Lakshan of Kandy. Two extremely talented music artists who produced a mega hit in 2003, "Wasanthaye sitha saluna" . After an extended break Romesh and Lakshan are back with another awesome song "Hithumathe" featuring Iraj. Their first album will be realised in March 2006.

According to the 22 year olds, Romesh Sugathapala and Lakshan Wijesinghe " the OBE " album features Ranga Dassanayake, Yohan Rajapakse , Rukshan Mark and especially Nisal Gangodage . Some of the lyrics were done by Kalum Shrimal and Bandula Mudanayake .

The CD cover and promotional stuff was done by Design World, Kandy. The audio CD will include the making of the album, two videos from the album together with the documentary on the album which is directed by Romesh and Lakshan. The album covers a variety of issues starting from the Motherhood, Youth, Drugs and Love.

In 1983 on May 16, Romesh was born in Kandy. Talking to Romesh he said that with the inception in his career he wanted to be a musician and a producer. He was only nine years old, when he started music at Kingswood College, Kandy.

Romesh says that his father, K. M. Sugathapala was his first music teacher. Romesh is a "visharada" violin player. His mother, brother, and sister have been supportive through his career as a young musician. He has done a Western Music Degree (London) in piano. And is currently an undergraduate at the Colombo University.

Having done a lot of work with Lakshan, Romesh says they were best of friends since they were little. Romesh's father's first student was well-known musician, Victor Ratnayake.

In 1983 on April 14, Lakshan was born in Kandy. Lakshan says that when he started music he was in Grade six. His parents are a huge influence to his musical career.

Talking about Lakshan's experience, he too has done a Diploma in Violin and is also currently studying Western music. Romesh and Lakshan say their principal (K. W. C.) Ranjith Chandrasekara has helped them a lot in their musical career. Now they are in the IRAJ and ILLNOIZE group. They have been with the group for ten months and have worked alot. The Neth FM theme song was done by Romesh. "As a duo we have done quite a few commercials."

Some of the people who have been supportive through our career are Hema Nalin Karunarathne, Nalaka Swarnathilaka, Ranga Senvirathna and Nisal Gangoda.

Their advice to other young musicians..... be original and creative with their music.
