by Ananda Kannangara

Sri Lankan migrant workers have remitted Rs. 197,978 million in 2005, Central Bank statistics indicated. The quantum is a 25 per cent increase over the previous year. The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLFBE) has targeted 200,000 jobs for Sri Lankan skilled workers in West Asia and outside SLBFE, Deputy General Manager (Foreign Relations) L. K. Ruhunage told the Sunday Observer.

According to Central Bank statistics, approximately Rs. 158,290 million had been remitted by Lankan migrant workers in 2004. He further said that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with Lebanon last month that guaranteed the security for our workers in that country.
