Two Chinese nationals arrested For the first time in the immigration history, the Department of Immigration and Emigration arrested two Chinese nationals who overstayed in Sri Lanka without valid visas. The Department's prosecution unit arrested them at Muhandiram Mawatha, Colombo 03 while they were engaged in a 'small' type of businesses. Colombo, Magistrate Court fined them Rs. 50,000 each and sentenced them to one year rigorous imprisonment. The case has been conducted by the Department's Legal Unit Head G. S. Jayatunga and authorising officer Upali Kannangara. The Immigration and Emigration Department sources also said that further raids will be conducted to apprehend those who overstay their visas.
