Battle of two cities: St. Aloysius vs Rahula March 17 and 18

A new addition to the traditional 'Big Matches' in Sri Lanka

St. Aloysius Galle vs Rahula College, Matara will be played at Galle Esplanade on March 17 and 18. This is the 3rd encounter between these two schools. On previous two occasions, Rahula won on 1st Innings and managed to keep the challenge trophy for the last 2 years.

St. Aloysius have played 12 matches this season without registering any outright victories. They have gained 1st Innings victories against Lumbini, Kalutara Vidyalaya, Mahanama, Colombo and St. Servatius - Matara while conceding 1st Innings victories to St. Anne's - Kurunegala, D. S. Colombo, St. Peter's - Colombo, St. Sebestians's - Moratuwa, St. Thomas - Mt. Lavinia and home town rivals Richmond - Galle, with Isipatana match ending in a draw.

Matara Rahula has played only nine matches this season with one outright victory against Devananda - Ambalangoda and losing to St. Peter's - Colombo. They won on 1st Innings against Richmond and Mahinda - Galle, Dharmasoka - Ambalangoda and Nalanda - Colombo while conceding 1st Innings victories to home town Rivals St. Thomas and St. Servatius. St. Aloysius are led by 5th year colourman Nirosha Welihinda.

Rahula team is captained by 5th year colourman H. L. D. T. Samarasinghe who opens the bowling with right-arm medium pacers and so far has captured 25 wickets.
