SLS Warehousing awarded ISO 9001:2000 and HACCP certification

SLS Warehousing(Pvt) Ltd., (SLSW), a subsidiary of Sri Lanka Shipping Company Limited, the company that manages export warehousing for the top tea brand 'Lipton', recently received the international quality system certificate ISO 9001:2000 incorporating HACCP principles for blending and packing of tea.

The certificate awarded by Certification International (UK) Ltd., (CI[UK]), is accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), one of the world's leading certification bodies. This service was made available by Quality International Certification Services (Pvt) Ltd., (QICS), who represents CI (UK) in Sri Lanka.

The audit by QICS covered the Quality Management Systems, Preventive Maintainance Programs, Training Programs, Raw Materials and the company's compliance with regulatory requirements and established standards.

The Director/General Manager of SLS Warehousing Gamini S. Mendis said: "There have been several changes made to raise the quality bar in our operations including continuously improving our Quality Management System and ensuring that all interested parties in this business are continuously satisfied through good manufacturing practices. This certificate will be further motivation for us to strive for even higher standards."

Among the changes done to the company's operations are the introduction of a Goods Manufacturing Practice which deals standards relative humidity levels in the production area, a ban on glass and water in the manufacturing area and a medical screening of every person, to ensure no germs are brought into the area.

A separate high hygienic area has been designated for the blending and packing of tea and all employees entering the area are given special buttonless, pocketless uniforms to be worn at all times.
