Mrs. Aban Pestonjee nominated for top world award



Mrs. Aban Pestonjee

Chairperson of the Abans Group of Companies Mrs. Aban Pestonjee, has been nominated for the 2006 'Leading Women Entrepreneurs of the world' award to be held in Bangkok, Thailand on March 22.

The prestigious award, presented annually by the US based Leading Women Entrepreneurs of the world organisation has nominated outstanding business women from 50 countries as this year's honourees. An international selection committee chooses the honourees from hundreds of nominees after careful scrutiny of their references with respect to the industry, involvement in civic and charitable activities and identification as a role model for other women to follow.

Mrs. Pestonjee will be among honorees from Thailand, Spain, Greece, South Africa, Australia, Korea, United States and Romania. She is the founder and livewire behind Abans which comprises over 30 companies, more than 60 showrooms and hundreds of dealers islandwide. The group business activities range from imports, exports, manufacture, real estate, finance and investments, travels and tours, hospitality, catering and healthcare.

Mrs. Pestonjee has received many prestigious international and local awards and accolades for her outstanding contributions and achievements in the field of trade and commerce. Among her many awards, she is the recipient of the 'Award of Excellence' by the SAARC Women's Association held in Colombo a few years ago. She attributes her phenomenal success to absolute dedication, business ethics and fair-trading practices.

Leading women's entrepreneurs of the world was founded to identify and honour top women entrepreneurs from around the world and heighten public awareness of their impact on the global economy. The first awards ceremony was held in Paris in 1997.

Since then the group has recognised hundreds of business women from around the world. The highlight of this year's awards ceremony in Bangkok will be the presentation of specially crafted LWEW pin in white gold and award by Her Royal Highness Princess Uboiratana of Thailand.

The nomination of Mrs. Pestonjee for this prestigious award has brought honour and recognition to Sri Lanka.
