A request to set up a single polling cluster in Jaffna for the local election by the security forces was turned down by the Jaffna District Election Department.

A discussion was held in Palali between security forces and Election department officials with regard to security measures of the election in the peninsula.

The army suggested that a single cluster be set up in a particular location in lieu of setting up separate polling stations for each area so that they could avoid the complexity that can rise in security measures. However the request was turned down as it was not allowed by law. (SOI - 16/03)
