President committed to peace

President Mahinda Rajapakse addressing the political party representatives said that he would never betrayed the country.

He told a meeting of 19 political parties, which did not participate at the Geneva Peace Talks at "Temple Trees", that his only wish was to bring an honourable lasting peace to the country.

The meeting was held to enlighten the members of these political parties the progress of the peace talks and President Rajapakse listened to their views expressed by members.

The Party representatives said they were satisfied with the agreement with the LTTE and requested the President to take steps to prevent a war situation in the country in future.

Colombo Municipal Mayoralty candidate, Vasudeva Nanayakkara said that some sections of the media were carrying out a misleading propaganda campaign on peace talks and urged the government to provide the people a true picture.

The party representatives assured to support the 'Mahinda Chintanaya' and the peace process and highly appreciated President Rajapakse's commitment to restore peace.
