Sri Dharmaloka and Gurukula long for victory

by Edward Weerasinghe - Kelaniya Group Corr.

Both Sri Dharmaloka MMV and Kelaniya Gurukula Vidyalaya want to register a win and put an end to the blank sheet in their 18th annual Battle of Kelaniya Cricket Encounter that takes place in Colombo's R. Premadasa International Stadium on March 22 and 23.

Though 17 encounters have been played before, none of those have produced a result and the blank sheet is somewhat depressing as far as statistics are concerned.

However, in the limited-over which has been played for 14 years, Sri Dharmaloka is in the lead with eight wins to Gurukula's six.

The limited-overs game between the two schools will be on March 26 and for that game Sri Lanka Cricket President Jayantha Dharmadasa will be the chief guest at the opening ceremony while World Cup winning Captain Arjuna Ranatunga - the Deputy Minister of Tourism and his brother Prasanna Ranatunga - the President of Gampaha District Cricket Association will be the chief guests at the awards ceremony.

The limited-overs match last year was won by Sri Dharmaloka MMV. The two-day game is sponsored by Lions Club of Kelaniya and the one-day game is sponsored by Modern Air Pvt Limited, Wedamulla, Kelaniya.

Rukshan Duminda will captain Sri Dharmaloka team and Nalin Harsha will lead Gurukula Vidyalaya.
