Abduction of youth on the rise

The public say that abduction of youths is on the increase in Batticaloa. Youths are often abducted in Army controlled areas to be recruited for paramilitary groups. Eight youngsters were abducted by a paramilitary group in Arayampathi, Batticaloa last Friday. (Thinakural (TK) - 27/03)

The Indian High Commission is conducting investigation to probe as to how the LTTE renegade leader Karuna obtained the Indian visa without the knowledge of the High Commission officials. (TK - 27/03)

The LTTE in Trincomalee handed over two children who came to join the rebel organisation to their parents in the presence of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission Head last Saturday. (TK - 27/03)

The 'Pongiyelum Makkal Padai (Rising People's Army) has issued a warning that it will soon resume attacks against the rough-and-tumble acts of the military forces and their paramilitary allies in the Districts of Batticaloa and Ampara. (TK - 27/03)

'Muslims will never live in peace in the combined North-East. The North-East should be divided. Tamil chauvinism is trying to rule the Muslim community in the same manner the Sinhala chauvinism did to the Tamils.

Muslim community ought to live with self dignity' said the leader of National Congress and Minister A.L.M Athaulla addressing an election rally in Ninthavur. He also accused Sri Lanka Muslim Congress leader Rauf Hakeem of betraying the Muslim community. He claimed the National Congress to be the only party standing for the Muslims' plight. (VK - 28/03)
