This Friday make a special date with Purple Rings at the Hilton Residences', Union Grill Bar to enjoy their repertoire of pop, top 40 hits from the 60s to the 80s, and also the evergreens. Join in and sing lustily with the boys and make yourself happy on Friday evenings.

The band is led by guitarist Lakmal Fernando with Krishantha Fernando on keyboards and vocalist Fabion Bonnie Paul.

The trio is enjoying success these days as they are kept busy playing at venues down South - like in Kalutara at the Tangerine Beach Hotel on Sundays, at the Eden Hotel Moragalla on Mondays, at Taj Exotica Bentota on Thursdays and closer home at the Cinnamon Grand, Colombo on Saturdays. M.P.

Summer Breeze off to Dubai

Off to Diera, Dubai to make Sri Lankan music popular is the group Summer Breeze, who will be featured at the Panorama Hotel on a six months contract. This is not the first time that they have performed in the Middle East.

The trio has participated in many concert shows staged in Abu Dhabi as well as in Dubai. Hailing from Moratuwa, well noted for musicians, Summer Breeze comprises Lakshantha a multi instrumentalist on guitar, violin, keyboards and saxophone, sings as well. The group is a family trio.

Lakshantha's brother Viraj is the vocalist, and doubles up on guitar and the glitz is Vimali the sister who also handles vocals.Lakshantha, a member of the SLBC orchestra tells us that he had taken part in musical programmes held by the SLBC, and with the trio he has performed at concert shows in Singapore, India, Maldives, England and the Middle East.

Their repertoire besides the Sri Lankan songs, includes Hindi, Spanish, Mexican and English. The last time they performed at Dubai, they were well received, and Lakshantha is confident that Summer Breeze will find success at the Panorama Hotel.

Lyceum wins gold award

The awards ceremony organised by the Japanese-Sri Lanka Technical and Cultural Association, for the evaluation of institutions maintaining a high management system in Sri Lanka by implementing the Japanese 5S concept was held recently. Lyceum International School, Nugegoda won the first place in the Marketing and Services category.

In addition, the school won the Silver Award for the first runner-up in all the categories - Apparel, Manufacturing and Plantations.

In the picture Mohan Lal Grero eminent educationist, Founder and Managing Director of the Group of Lyceum International Schools and Kumari Grero Principal of Lyceum International School Nugegoda, are seen with the Gold and Silver awards.

Lady Magician

For the first time, the Sri Lanka Magic Circle held a competition recently for the Lady Magician of the Year 2006, and Roshini Jayasekera was judged the best lady of the year.

A past pupil of St. Paul's Milagiriya and daughter of the veteran Magician Rohan Jayasekera (Wonderro), Roshini won the Young Magician of the Year in 2002.
