Sri Lanka's synchronized swimmers for World championships

Sri Lanka synchronized swimming team who fared prominently, winning two golds, one silver and three bronze at the Hong Kong Synchronized Swimming Open Championships in January this year has been invited to participate at the World Swimming Championships to be held in Japan in July.

According to SLASU Media Coordinator Nethru Nanayakkara SL Synchronized swimming team will make the trip to Japan as they put up a fine display to achieve success amongst 50 competitors who participated in Hong Kong.

Sri Lanka's synchronized swimmers will compete in paddle stroke, solo event, egg beater stroke and also in the open team event.

Presently the medal winning squad: Gayani Warnapura, Dehara Katipearachchi, Elisha Gomes, Deethri Samarajeewa, Hashini Warnapura, Dilini Kithsiri, Ruvini Illukkumbura are training under Kumudini David, Lankade Silva and Dilrukshi Thamthiriwatta.

Meanwhile 44 swimmers will go into training immediately after April 17 at the Sugathadasa Stadium swimming pool in preparation for four major international meets, Asian Age Group Swimming Championships in Malaysia, World Swimming Championships in Japan, South Asian Games in Colombo and the Asian Games in Qatar.

SLASU selectors picked the swimmers for the national training pool. The national pool may be reduced according to the performances of the swimmers. In fact there may be new swimmers replacing the others after the National Pentathlon Championships and the Age Group swimming Championships.

Ruwan Manawadu, national swimming coach will be in charge of the National pool. SLASU interim committee will also pick several other qualified coaches to assist Manawadu shortly.

The following have been selected to the national pool-Pasan Eramusugoda (Ananda), Conrad Francis, Dharshaka Tennakoon (Aquatic Academy of Sri Lanka). Tissa Chandrasekara, Naveen Karunaratne, Prabha Madhavi Dharmadasa (Asian International School), Devinka Gunathilake (Bishops), Kushan de Silva (Gateway International School), Miniruwani Samarakoon (Gateway International School, Kandy), Chamari Kudabage (Hillwood College, Kandy), Chathuri Abeykoon, Roshanara Hutch, Neluukshi Wijeratne (Ladies College).

Mihiri Kandanarachchi, Udari Mendis, Hansani Weerathunga, Sunethra Wijetunga (Mahamaya College, Kandy), Methma Jayawardena, Apeksha Wijesooriya (Musaeus College), Gayan Samarakoon (Nalanda College), Mayumi Raheem (Otter AC), Asela Pradeep, Lahiru Pradeep (Panadura AC), Andrew Abeysinghe, Ihsaam Fahim, Imara Fahim, Natasha Kodituwakku, Dulna Perera, Kaeyan Veera (Rainbow AC), S. Madurabanan, Dasun Perera, Yahan Samarajeewa, Althaf Yakoob (Royal College), A. Kalupathirana (S. Thomas' College), Piyumi Ekanayake (Sirimavo Bandaranike BV), K. V. S.
