President's Cup mega cycle race:

1250 km over seven days from Thursday

A mega cycling event titled the Peace Tour for the President's Cup has been organised by the Interim Committee of the Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka (CFSL) covering 1250 KM in seven stages from April 6 to 12. This is being sponsored by National Lotteries Board.

The first stage on April 6 will be from Galle Face Green to Anuradhapura, April 7 from Anuradhapura to Trincomalee, April 8 from Trincomalee to Polonnaruwa, April 9 from Polonnaruwa to Kandy, April 10 from Kandy to Ratnapura via Ruwanwella, April 11 from Ratnapura to Tangalle via Suriyawewa and April 12 from Matara to Colombo. At the end of each stage, the Interim Committee of the CFSL have organised an Avurudhu Festival with the participation of the people of the respective areas.

The first 20 overall winners will receive prize money and gifts to the total of Rs. 1 million courtesy of Jayawiru Lottery. Also, every cyclist who completes the 1250 KM race will receive a hamper from the Interim Committee of CFSL.

The co-sponsors of this mega cycling event, David Peiris Motor Company Limited, are donating a Bajaj three wheeler and a Bajaj motor cycle for the overall winner and the runner-up.

Over 500 cyclists are scheduled to face the starter and a managers meeting is scheduled to be held on Tuesday (April 4) at the auditorium of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports at 9.30 a. m. with entry coupons to appear in ANCL publications.

A press briefing regarding this event was attended by the Chairman of the CFSL's Interim Committee, DIG Pathirana, Secretary to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, S. Wirithamulla, Jayantha Ratnayake (General Manager, David Pieris Motor Company Limited) and senior officials of the National Lotteries Board.
