'People have accepted Mahinda Chintana' - S. Ramanathan

Lanka Estate Worker's Union General Secretary S. Ramanathan has said that the people voted for UPFA at the local government polls for it was working towards peace. The results have shown that people have accepted the Mahinda Chintana. This is a clear manifestation of the hope people have on the President. He should carry forward the peace process as people are with him, Ramanathan said. (Virakesari 10/4)

A change in the Cabinet is on card. The new Cabinet will consist the dissidents of JVP as well as the UNP. The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, Ceylon Worker's Congress and the Upcountry People's Front have requested that they should be given portfolios that are urged by them., Meanwhile, a section of the JVPers are to join with the Government.

It is reported that CWC leader Arumugan Thondaman will get the Civil Aviation Ministry, while UPF leader Chandraskeran Livestock Development. Rauf Hakeem will be appointed as Ports Development Minister. (Thinakkural (TKL) 9.04.2006)

TNA Parliamentarian Mavai Senathirajah said that late S.J.V. Chelvanayagam fought for the rights of Tamils until his death. His struggle was based on non-violence, He signed several agreements with Sinhala governments. As they have cheated him he put forward the demand for Tamil Eelam.

He was speaking at the 108 birth anniversary meeting held in Vavuniya. He urged for a federal solution. If it had been granted then there would not be such serious repercussions as witnessed today. (TKL 10/4)

Arrangements have been made by Negombo police to record entries in Tamil. DIG W. Pratapsinghe, Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle and the Negombo Police OIC O. W. Silva were also present at the top-level meeting.

Tamils in Negombo could make their entries in Tamil. A high ranking police officer said that action is being taken to introduce this system in other areas too. Attention has been drawn to the fact that difficulties are faced by Tamils when entries were recorded in Sinhala. (TKL 10/4)

People support Norochali Coal Power project. The people of the area conducted a march recently in support of the project. More than 500 people belonging to all walks of life attended the march. They shouted slogans in support of development activities. (Sudar Oli 10/4).

The Communist Party of Sri Lanka has requested openly all to support the peace initiatives of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

In a statement issued the Party said that attacks against the security forces had increased considerably. The CPSL condemns the violence against civilians as well, the statement said. (TKL 13/4)
