New video clip

by Mahes Perera

To be able to get your song video telecast on RFO part of the French TV is no easy task, says Anura Jayasinghe whose latest video clip of his song Nidi Nethi Re Yame is getting airplay on RFO through TV5.

"RFO is telecast in 85 countries and the song has entered the Caribbean Island Hit Parade, and I hope it will go places. In this video, the images feature new talent Buddhika Senaratne and the music track is by me, Rohan Silva the pedal steel guitarist and Nilantha Ariyaratne, the bassist", Anura informs us.

He proudly claims that he was the first musician to introduce Sinhala original songs to French radio and television, and also performed at the inauguration of the Air Lanka regional office in Paris.

Before he left for France, he began his musical career with the popular Sri Lankan group 'La Ceylonians' led by the veteran Noel Ranasinghe and the group was fortunate to represent Sri Lanka at the Yamaha World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo in 1976, and won recognition for their performance.

A member of SACEM, the French authors, composers and editors union, Anura was in Sri Lanka recently to release his new CD Sitting Pretty in the Ocean which contains fifteen original Sinhala songs including two French songs Don't Cry My Angel (Ne Pleure Pas Mon Ange) and Welcome to My Island (Bienvenue Dans Mon Ile).

The other Sri Lankan songs are sung in folk and pastoral style with the music pleasant on the ear and catchy in rhythm and arrangement. The lyrics according to Anura were written by Stanley Welgampola, Marie-Lean Dardillac, who handled the French songs, and himself. The song on the DVD Nidi Nethi Re Yama is a bonus track on the CD and the disc is recommended for your CD shelf.
