ANCL hosts Vesak with Amadahara by Ananda Kannangara The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd (Lake House), organisers of the forthcoming Amadahara Vesak Program will distribute cash prizes amounting to Rs. 600,000 to the winners of the vesak lantern competition. The competition will be held on May 12,13 and 14 opposite Lake House and open for adults and school children. An ANCL Buddhist weekly Budusarana will organise the program to be held in connection with the forthcoming 2550th Buddha Jayanthi festival. The Vesak zone will cover a vast area in Colombo, centred by the ANCL. The area extends towards Gamini Cinema Hall Junction, Colombo Harbour, Galle Face Green, Fort Railway Station, Presidents House, Trans Asia Hotel. The Zone consists of attractive illuminations, Vesak decorations, dansal and Bhakti Gee recitals. Leading public and private sector institutions, including the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Sri Lanka telecom, Fort Police Station, Sri Lanka Air Force, Laksala and some state and private sector bankers , The Colombo Three Wheelers association and the Pavement Hawkers Association will assist Lake House to conduct the program on a grand scale. Meanwhile voluntary organisations, Buddhist societies and Buddhist temples in the city limits and suburbs have also extended their co-operation to make the event a success. During this period, mega Vesak lanterns and pandals, Bakthi Gee programs and stage dramas will be conducted by various Buddhist organisations. The Independent Television Network, Lakhanda Radio and the City FM will make a special broadcast on the proceedings of the Amadahara Vesak Program. The ANCL will also make a special issue of the Dinamina Vesak Magazine in Sinhala and English on May 2 at Sambuddhaloka Temple, Fort to coincide with the Amadahara Program. |
