by Leslie Fernando

A schoolboy - Baasim Hassan of St. Joseph's College and a schoolgirl Uvini Atapattu of Musaeus College were selected as the Most Outstanding Oarsman and Oarswoman by the Colombo Rowing Club.

Both Hassan and Atapattu received their awards during the annual general meeting held at the Colombo Rowing Club recently. Chanaka Wickremasooriya, Captain of Boats of CRC said that the selections of Most Outstanding Oarsman and Oarswoman were picked on their improvement and performances for the year 2005 - 2006.

Both Hassan and Atapattu have exhibited their flare and love for the sport by helping their schools to win many prestigious titles during the year 2005 - 2006.

Hassan and Atapattu fared prominently at the last Rowing National Championships, becoming the Most Outstanding Schoolboy and Schoolgirl scullor respectively.

Hassan is the captain of the St. Joseph's College rowing team while Atapattu leads the Musaeus College rowing team.

Both of them are also in the Junior National rowing training squad and strongly tipped to be selected to represent Sri Lanka at the Asian Junior Rowing Championship to be held in Singapore in July.

Both of them are also in the training pool in preparation for the rowing event of the South Asian Games to be held in Colombo in August.
