Amana refurbishes children's ward
The Amana Group of Companies, comprising Amana Investments Limited,
Amana Takaful Insurance, Amana Capital Limited, Lanka Commodity Brokers
Limited and IGL Lanka Limited refurbished the Children's Ward 15B at the
Colombo South Teaching Hospital, Kalubowila as part of the Group's
Corporate Social Responsibility project.
The refurbishment project was funded by the Amana Children's Charity
Fund which was formed in 2005 to support the welfare and development of
underprivileged and disabled children in the country in the areas of
education, nourishment, healthcare and rehabilitation. The Group picked
"Children our future" as the theme for its CSR work after much
deliberation.
The Amana Charity Fund will maintain this ward on an annual basis.
The Young Muslim Women's League worked in collaboration with Amana to
provide a variety of children's toys for the play area at the ward.
Amana's MD, Faizal Salieh said "We are delighted to have undertaken
this project for the Colombo South Government Hospital's Children's Ward
in keeping with our social responsibility objectives. Hospitals are not
the best places for people to spend time, but we hope that this
refurbishment project will provide a pleasant environment for the
children receiving medical care in this ward". He thanked the Young
Muslim Women's League for the collaborative role they played in the
project.
The hospital's chief Consultant Pediatrician, Prof. Narada
Warnasuriya said "We are grateful to Amana for assisting us in this way.
This project is a fine example of private public partnership in
non-profit healthcare services for the benefit of the poorer segments of
our society.
The refurbished ward was handed over to the hospital authorities at a
ceremony at the hospital. Dr. Deepthi Samarage, Consultant Paediatrician
of the Hospital, Dr. Dulani Gunasekera, Dr. Guwani Liyanage, Dr. M.
Karim, Ishrat Rauff, CEO of Amana Capital, Hospital staff members and
