S. Thomas' and Musaeus to row in Calcutta
S. Thomas' College and Musaeus College rowers left on Thursday for
Calcutta, India to participate at the Bangal Rowing Club International
Schools Regatta to be held from May 14 to 20. Both schools were invited
by the Bangal Rowin Club.
The Thomian crew will be captained by Shannon de Silva while Musaeus
crew will be led by Sachitra Jayatilaka.
Musaeus rowers will take part in four events while the Thomians will
compete in the Sculls, pairs and fours.
The Musaeus squad - Sachitra Jayatilaka, Uvini Atapattu, Gimani
Widanagamge, Hiroshi Gunawardena, Naduni Perera, Menaka Kohana, Thilini
Kariyawasam, Rushani Pathirana, Sarasi Paranamanna, Nethmi
Lokubalasooriya. Thomain crew - Shannon de Silva, Dayantha Siriwardana,
Dineshka Aluvihara, Milindra Kulugammana, Manil Salgadoe, Monoharan
Niroshan, Damith Peiris, Lakshan Fernando, Janith Amaratunga, Dathika
Wickremanayake, Naresh Perera, Devaan Hallock.
Ajith Goonewardana who for 20 years-old who moulded the Thomians into
a strong force through the most noble sport of rowing, will be the coach
of both Thomians and Musaeus Colleges.
Goonewardana is also the present coach of Musaeus. Goonewardana is a
former Thomian and national rowin captain and National Rowing Coach.
Shirley Panditharatne, the Master-in-Charge of S. Thomas College rowing
will go as an official while Mrs. N. T. Doole, Teacher-in-Charge of
Musaeus rowing will accompany as an official too.
